- The Palomino is not a breed of horse, but rather a
horse recognised by its golden coat.
- A palomino is defined as a saddle horse or pony type
therefore may be a Quarter Horse, Arabian Derivative , Thoroughbred or of pony
breeding, as long as it has that familiar golden coat.
- The body coat colour of a palomino should be that of a
newly minted gold coin, or three shades lighter or darker.
- The mane and tail should be white, silver or ivory.
- The basic skin colour is dark and both eyes are dark
and of the same colour.
- spots or patches of black, brown or chestnut larger
than 25cm square are not acceptable.
- White spots, except those caused by accident, are not
acceptable. White is only permitted on the face and legs, although it is not
allowed above the knees or hocks.
- Palominos must not have a dorsal stripe or zebra
markings.
